Overview

Tesla, the US EV, energy and AI company, develops the Optimus humanoid. Its Q3 2026 update states that Optimus production began on high-volume lines in Fremont, yielding its first production-quality bots. Press reports say the Fremont line is planned for 1 million units a year. Musk has described the Texas line as a 10-million-unit-a-year effort, but it is still a plan and appears as under construction in Tesla's update. Deliveries to outside companies, industrial first, are reportedly expected around the end of 2027.

Strengths

  • Automotive mass-manufacturing know-how and supply chain
  • AI and compute shared with its FSD program
  • Its own factories as a large-scale proving ground
